These people are mainly a crafts mailorder house, which have just about everything you want. They've got an unusual item for lifecasting, which can be reused many times, unlike alginate. You are better off getting plaster bandages from a medical supply house.

ONE NOTE: Do *NOT* buy the casting material called 'body pARTs,' which is a canister containing some cheap plaster and a little bit of VERY expensive, VERY poor quality alginate (which smells, oddly enough, like cinnamon). The stuff mixes very poorly and forms a non-uniform casting that's alternately chunky and watery. Bad news. Stick with Pink House alginates or the stuff you con local dental supply stores into selling you :).

The best thing is to invest in some Alginate to make the mold from. A place that I highly recommend is known as "Pink House Studios." They have one of the best instructional tapes for the novice that I have seen in my years of practice in this field.

Their tape "Better head molds from life" costs US$49.95 + S&H. Plus... they also carry all the supplies you need to create the best molds and prosthetics for costuming you may ever need. Give them a call, and get their catalog/listing of all they carry.

They have all supplies you need for lifecasting, including alginate that sets in up to 8 minutes, as well as plaster bandages and alginate retarder and bonding agent. Their moulage and flex wax you can reuse many times for many lifecasting sessions. If you want to get everything from one place, there's the Professional Face Casting Kit. They also have the acrylic monomer mentioned in Raven's Fang FAQ in Section 27.

Locally
Look around the phone book under Dental Supply, and call around. There may be some places that require you to be a dentist (or know one) to get their products. There's various brands and sets out there. Regular set can do ok, though it maybe too fast, unless you use *COLD* water! [hehe] Ah... Now you can listen to the surprised screams of your model!

Costume shops can at times have all that you need.

Plaster bandages
You can usually find these at your local medical supply store, paying around $30-40 a case of 3" or 4" wide fast set. Do NOT get the stuff from the craft stores, Rigid Wrap, as those set too slowly, and they're actually more expensive than the fast set!

Ultracal 30
U.S. Gypsum makes this, and you will have to call their 1-800 number to find a source close to you. A local source will usually have a 100 pound bag, which will be about $20-30. You're the one that's gonna have to lug the thing from your car to your house, though. It would help to have two people moving it.

99.11 - Feathers/Hair
================

Any body of water, such as a pond, can easily have ducks, peacocks, and other kinds of birds, and will have feathers littering the ground in varying states. Some can be used, while some can't. If it's hunting season, you can ask the hunter for the feathers.

Or, you can use feather boas, being mindful of how some of them can easily shed like mad, lending to the humor of losing feathers while you flap.

Horsehair can sometimes be found at horse ranches. Depending on where you go, craft and tack shops may have it as well.

American Plume & Fancy Feather (http://www.americanplume.com/)
PO Box 566

Clarks Summit, PA 18411
Phone: 800.521.1132 or 570.586.8400
Fax: 570-586-3008
Their prices reflect a "showbiz" clientele, doing wholesale. However, they've got a nice online catalog of just feathers, as well as full-head feathered masks. Worth the look. Someone mentioned they're difficult to deal with? Are they?

Crazy Crow Trading Post (http://www.crazycrow.com/)
PO Box 847
Pottsboro, TX 75076
Phone: 903-786-2287 or 800-786-6210 (7:30am - 5:30pm Monday - Friday CST)
Fax: 903-786-9059
Great source for horsehair and other items.

Fax: 818-982-2919
I have received a wholesale feather catalog some time back from a place called Hollywood Fancy Feather Co. Their catalog didn't strike me as being to expansive but they do carry 'basic' types of feathers in lots of different colors.

Rainbow Feathers (http://www.rainbowfeatherco.com/)
1036 South Main Street
Las Vegas, NV 89101
Phone/Fax: (702) 598-0988
Another interesting supplier is Rainbow Feathers: he can custom-dye feather boas to order! He's one of only two or three in the nation who does this, and it only takes a couple of days and costs the same as boas purchased elsewhere!

Denton, TX 76208
Phone: 1-940-898-7500

Chicago, IL 60606
Phone: 866-858-2266 or 312.876-7650
A beauty supply chain found in many locations, check their store locator. It's more a high-end style beauty shop that can have hair pieces and similar.

Zucker Feathers (http://www.zuckerfeather.com/
PO Box 331
28419 Hwy 87 N
California, MO 65018
Phone: (573) 796-2183
Fax: (573) 796-2278
They are mostly wholesale, but have some really gorgeous feathers. You can order a catalog and they have an online catalog list also. They don't just give their price lists out to anyone, though...

Attaching feathers
FireRain: I use Velverette, the craft glue.

b.mai: If you want a detailed description of how to attach feathers, and you have access to the fantasy list, talk to Pierre Pettinger. He has a lot of knowledge in that area. Basically, you just drive a needle through the center of your quill and sew that puppy down.

They have a massive warehouse full of high-density foam models of just about every animal on Earth, and they're moderately priced (though their full-size bull elephant model is the most expensive :) .. but I get zebra models and such from them for around $65 for a full shoulder mount (shoulders, neck, full head). These models can then be modified with clay as needed or used directly in casting, or sew your cloth to fit it, or whatever. I visited their factory and they gave me a full tour... nifty stuff, and they had a bundle of techniques and suggestions once I told them what I was doing.
The models pretty much all show some of the musculature which is nice, and you can see the details if you contact them and they'll send you a free, thick, full color catalogue. They have just about everything you'll want to use.

- -Makers of POWER NEON CABLE, FLEX LITE, R/C NEON low voltage EL lighting kits.
Says Lumen Photofox/Brightfox:
I actually bought one of the R/C NEON kits locally and it works great on just a 9 volt Battery! Its a thin "ribbon" (2 3/8 inch) of deep blue light bright enough to cast shadows in a darkened room and intended to be taped or glued onto model cars, planes, etc. Incredibly, the power unit it about 1.5 inches square and must weight only an ounce or so! (Brought it to AAC97 for demo purposes, got a lot of nice feedback.) Also makes a cold neon bendable "cable" and sells larger amounts of the "ribbon" or use on cars (hence 12volt power units). -
